Acer Aspire One
19 12 2008Picked up a laptop or should I say a Netbook from the last place I would ever thought of buying computers/laptop, Walmart.
At first glance of this thing, you’d think it was one of those toy laptops that you buy for your toddler. Well think again, this is a full fledged computer. Complete with Windows XP, wireless card, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive and a 1.6GHZ Intel Atom processor.
There are other configurations that you could get, one flavor comes with Linpus Linux Lite (stripped down Fedora.) Others come with a SSD with different sizes. No thank you on the SSD, though knowing that SSD drive is superior to the IDE drive, I’ll take my chances, stick with the IDE and have alot more disk space.
Once you open the box, you marvel at the size of this thing. It’s tiny compared to a laptop. The screen on this thing weighs in at a mere 8.9″. Though it is tiny, it’s far from unreadable. It features a 1024×600 pixel LCD with LED back lighting. The netbook itself weighs less than 3lbs with the battery attached. Though I love this thing, it does have its pros and cons.
Pros:
Light
Power Saving
Portable
Full Fledged Computer
LED back lighting opposed to CCFL
Built in Webcam/Mic
Speedy
Functions like a normal laptop/desktop.
Built in card reader, basically reads any cards out there.
Cons:
Small Screen (More of a less between a pro and con, some days you just want a bigger screen)
Keyboard is small and takes getting used to
Track pad, the stupid left and right click buttons are on the side, rather than below the track pad. (Biggest Flaw Design)
No Optical Drive
Finally if you’ve been looking for a new laptop/netbook. This one does the job, a good mix between portability, style and function. Price wise, if you have extra cash to burn then I’d say go for it.
